The condition of Dry Eyes affects millions of Americans and causes a significant amount of morbidity. We are learning more and more about this condition and the more we learn, the better we are able to treat it. There are new modalities which have recently become available in the last few years. Many of you have already heard about these treatments. The goal of these therapies is to alleviate the symptoms of dry eyes and restore normal, comfortable every-day living to all who suffer from Dry Eyes (so you are no longer “aware of your eyes”).
I am currently in discussion with Sciton to be a lead investigator in an upcoming Broad Band Light Therapy for Dry Eyes study. Sciton is the world’s leading laser manufacturer and I’ve been using their laser equipment and working with them for many years. Some of you have already talked to me personally about Broad Band Light (BBL) therapy for dry eyes and ocular rosacea and many of you have even had these treatments. Because it has worked so well, Sciton is now ready to formally conduct a well-controlled pilot study on patients with this condition. I’m quite passionate about BBL use for these purposes and believe it will be a great addition to our armamentarium for treating Dry Eyes in the future.
