What is an Eyebrow Lift or Forehead Lift?

An eyebrow lift, also referred to as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic procedure that reduces wrinkles and provides a more awake, youthful appearance by raising the position of the eyebrows. An eyebrow lift helps by lifting drooping eyebrows or hooded eyes and smoothing lines of the bridge of your nose, vertical frown lines, and horizontal lines.

It is an incredibly common procedure, with over 88,000 brow lifts performed annually in the United States. The main difference between an eyebrow lift and a forehead lift is that while both smooth the forehead, with a forehead lift, eyebrow position may not change as dramatically.

During the initial consult, your doctor at Opal Aesthetics will evaluate your skin. They will take many photos of your brows and forehead while you make various facial expressions to identify your wrinkles and fine lines. They will discuss your goals and answer any questions you may have about the procedure to ensure you achieve your desired results.

Frequently Asked Questions

During the procedure, you will likely be put to sleep under general anesthesia for 1-3 hours. Depending on the procedure, your doctor may use local anesthesia instead to numb the area of your forehead where the procedure will be performed.

They will make small incisions near your hairline or inside the scalp, then lift the skin of the forehead and remove parts of the muscles and skin that are creating your wrinkles. You will receive stitches or staples to close up the incisions, and your surgical site will be protected with bandages to promote healthy healing.

You may be a good candidate for an eyebrow lift if you have cosmetic concerns about sagging eyebrows or forehead wrinkles and want a more permanent solution that doesn’t require repeat treatments, like Botox. You might be unqualified for treatment if you are a smoker or are in poor physical health.

As you’ll still be groggy from the anesthesia, you will need someone to drive you home after the procedure and stay with you for the first night. You will likely experience some swelling and bruising for 1-2 weeks after your eyebrow or forehead lift. You may also require a small drainage tube to prevent fluid build-up that can be removed after 1-2 days.

Discomfort from the healing process can be managed with over-the-counter or prescribed pain medication, and cold compresses can reduce swelling. Make sure to keep your head elevated at all times and avoid strenuous activities.

Results are long-lasting, meaning you can enjoy the youthful look of your eyebrow or forehead lift for 10-12 years or more. Some things that may affect the longevity of your results are your skincare routine, sun exposure, diet, genetics, and age.
